We arrive in Mandalay.

At our hotel, the Mandalay City Hotel

The Mahamini Pagoda where the Buddha statue carries 1 ton of gold leaf

The reconstructed Mandalay Palace which was destroyed by bombs during WWII

Cottage industries -- Check out the hammering men in the gold leaf factory

This religious figure looks to me as if it should be in Las Vegas

This beautiful Buddha altar was at the temple on top of Mandalay Hill

We went to see the show at the Mintha Theater

Our guide chartered a ferry boat to take us to Mingun.
Notice the ingenious handrails for the boarding ramp.

Happy couple with betel nut stained teeth.

We enjoyed mixing with the local people in Mingun.

This temple was constructed by a lovesick ruler in honor of his deceased wife.

More visiting with the locals

These women followed us down to the dock.

They even helped me over the rought terrain.
And then they stayed there waving until our boat left.

That night we visited a local festivity near our hotel.

We visited the Sedona Hotel where we enjoyed their gift shop.

The Sedona Hotel is located across the moat from the Royal Palace.

Here is a family of three all seated on a bicycle.

This is a telephone service on the curb of a busy street.
We saw quite a few of these.

That afternoon we visited the main market where we took photos of a lot
of people because they wanted to see themselves on the digital camera.
The first photo is of me showing a nun how she looks on the photo I took.

Carlos wore his new silk jacket for the first time that evening for dinner.

Local public transportation during rush hour

We flew to Heho next not because there's anything
important to see there, but it is the gateway to Inle Lake
which is one of the four big sites in Myanmar.

It was like going back a century
when we saw some of the traffic on the road.

But they had those same overstuffed trucks not only at rush hour.

Lots of women carried their purchases on their heads.

We were lucky to be there on market day.

Then we took a boat to our hotel on the lake.
The rooms are actually built on stilts in the lake.

A local band played local music to welcome us.

This is the way we got around on Lake Inle.

Foot rowing fishermen are one of the big sights to see on Lake Inle.
They fish using a large metal framed basket.
From a distance, the men look as if they are walking on water.

A temple built in the lake.

A lady nursing her baby was at one of the cottage industry factories we visited.

At the Cat Jumping Pagoda, some visiting Asians wanted to have
their photo taken with me so Carlos took one of me with them.

I found a friendly cat at a silver smith's shop.

The next day we visited a 5th day market, so called
because it is held in five different places
on every five days.
Ergo, a 5th day market

We visited the Princess Inle, the most expensive hotel on the lake.

We had a view of the main pagoda of Mynamar from our room in Yangon.

We took a photo of ourselves in the lobby of our hotel.

I was really surprised to see a Burmese tapestry of the Infant of Prague.
